After a period of vacancy, the City of Rose Hill has a new administrator. Rico Aguayo, 46, was sworn in for the administrative position at the Oct. 15 Rose Hill City Council meeting. “So it’s official now,” said Mayor Steve Huckaby after Aguayo’s swearing-in. “Something we have been waiting for for many months.” Aguayo, originally from California, has a long track record in public service, both locally and at the state level. With recent heavy rains, Derby’s newest recreational resource, Warren Riverview Park, experienced high water levels rising up over its access area to the Arkansas River, putting it several feet under water. The two U.S. senators from Kansas, along with all four U.S. representatives from the state, on Monday wrote a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai urging that he “restore sufficiency and predictability” to the Universal Service Fund High Cost program. Chanute stalls on offer to purchase building

Chanute city commissioners failed to approve a deal Monday evening for the sale of an industrial building after negotiating with a buyer last week. The proposed deal to sell the building at 615 W. Cherry to Bridgewood Custom Cabinets failed 2-2 Monday evening. Potential buyer Jim Caldwell of Hi-Lo Industries and Bridgewood increased his offer on the building to $500,000 and negotiated with commissioners to cap credits for equipment and job creation. City of Mulvane has received $1,233,106.79 YTD from Kansas Star Casino

According to The Mulvane News, the City of Mulvane received $155,051.97 from the Kansas Lottery Commission, which represents a 1 percent share of August’s gaming revenue. The contract between the casino and the Kansas Lottery calls for the return of 1 percent of each month’s gaming revenue to the City of Mulvane, and to both Sumner and Sedgwick counties. Grow Neosho County presents first loan

A local economic development committee presented its first low-interest loan to a business Monday. Grow Neosho County presented a $45,000 low-interest loan to Consignment Affordable Style/Trend & Main, the first loan by the organization. Grow Neosho County is a nonprofit partnership with the NetWork Kansas E-Community program. The E stands for entrepreneur, said Chanute Regional Development Authority Director Matthew Godinez. Chanute weighs ordinance against meth problem

The Neosho County Attorney told the Chanute City Commission that the city’s limits on sales of precursor ingredients has dramatically reduced the incidence of methamphetamine labs in the city, if not the drug’s use. “We obviously still have a meth problem in town,” Commissioner Phillip Chaney said during Monday evening’s discussion. The commission reviewed the city’s 2013 ordinance on cold medications that can be used to make methamphetamine. Sports complex could result from STAR bond district change in Derby

Adjustments have begun on shifting business requirements for Derby’s STAR bond district. After a briefing by representatives of Derby Destination Development LLC on Sept. 11, the City Council approved an amendment to the agreement, which was passed in summer 2016. Air show produces huge crowds

The 2018 McConnell Air Force Base air show, Frontiers in Flight, wrapped up on Sunday with nearly 110,000 visitors making their way on base during the two-day event. With a low ceiling and more inclement weather on Saturday the crowd was smaller with only 35,000 visitors. On Sunday the sun came out and so did the fans as the attendance more than doubled with 74,692 attendees.
