Walter Johnson Stadium in Humboldt will host its annual vintage baseball game at 1 pm Saturday. The Topeka Westerns will play the Branson Boomers, and festivities begin at 11 am with players warm-up and a display of antique cars at Humboldt City Square Park. Players will ride in the cars at noon to the stadium for a hot dog feed. The National Anthem will play and the game will start at 1 pm Saturday. The City of Derby is hosting a Regional Transit Feasibility Town Hall to gather feedback and ideas from Derby residents. The town hall is part of a broader study called Connecting Communities on the support and demand for transit services in Derby, Haysville, Andover, and Maize. The study is sponsored by Wichita Transit and funded by the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Findings from the study will result in a strategic plan for transit services in each city. Neosho County Commissioners considered resolutions Friday to reorganize 911 dispatching and emergency management. With the retirement of Emergency Management Director Byron Shultz, Emergency Management and 911 dispatching become separate departments no longer under the Sheriff’s Department. The commission approved four resolutions to establish the two functions as departments and to appoint Lori Nally as 911 Director and Melanie Kent-Culp as Emergency Management Director. The resolutions also established a five-member 911 advisory board. Commissioners voted to accept a proposal from an Oklahoma City engineering firm to design expansion of the city’s fiber optic broadband network into two neighborhoods. Derby Fire Chief calls for earlier truck replacement, more staff

Derby Fire Chief Brad Smith has proposed moving up the timetable for replacing one of the city’s fire trucks by a year. Engine 82 was set for replacement in 2020, and Smith said he would like to see that done next year. Smith made the proposal in his report in the 2019 city budget, which is now in the process of being examined by the public and City Council members. Former Haysville Activity Center to become sports, entertainment venue

The City of Haysville leased the former Haysville Activity Center (HAC) at 7106 S. Broadway to a local couple that plans to re-open it as a sports and recreation venue called 060 Sports. The building has been empty since 2017 when the HAC moved to a new location. Derby Historical Society receives county assistance

On June 13, the Sedgwick County Commission voted on and approved assistance in the amount of $10,000 to the Derby Historical Museum to replace the windows. The museum is one of seven sites being recognized during the upcoming 150th anniversary celebration for Derby and submitted the proposal in hopes of moving closer to the completion of a window replacement project. Senior management of a pontoon boat company has turned down a counter-proposal from the Chanute city commission and will re-open their search for a manufacturing plant. Chanute Regional Development Authority Director Matt Godinez reported Tuesday morning that Coach Marine Group has turned down Chanute’s offer and has re-opened its recruitment for a new city in southeast Kansas.
