Hays city commission to consider additions to two city parks

Local veterans are hoping to create a veterans memorial in the Hays Veterans Park, 13th and Canterbury. Project Director Vance Chartier of the Veteran Alliance will make a presentation about the project during tonight’s Hays city commission work session. It has taken some time but the upgrades to Eisenhower Park in Dodge City have picked back up again and are set to be completed by the end of the year. The project of renovations started in June 2017 with funding coming from different local grants and organizations. As the city of Wichita prepares to shut down one golf course, it’s considering a proposal to sell another one to a private owner. The Golf Advisory Committee has scheduled a special meeting Tuesday where members will discuss a proposal from Waterfront developer Johnny Stevens, who wants to purchase MacDonald Golf Course at 13th and Roosevelt, officials confirmed Thursday. City and area crews respond to multiple emergencies during flash flooding Emergency responders across the city of Independence and Montgomery County spent a sleepless night answering multiple calls for assistance as a powerful, lingering storm system pummeled the area with high winds, drenching rain and deadly flash flooding. Parking lot improvements at the Manhattan Regional Airport was the central point of discussion at the Manhattan City Commission meeting Tuesday. Wichita's Old Cowtown could see its funding cut by more than half a million dollars. The city is looking at cutting the majority of funding for cowtown museum in 2020.
