Kansas’ longest-running annual celebration, Mulvane Old Settlers Days, will return this weekend for its 145th year. This year’s theme is “A Stitch in Time”.
Jerry Bachman, president of Mulvane Old Settlers Days, said the theme originates from the celebration’s annual quilt show.
“[The quilt show] was dynamic last year. I’ve never seen so many people go to it,” Bachman said. “We used to have to have it at one of the schools, and it was just too far away.” Old Settlers attendants can buy a themed button for $2. Any person who buys a button will have his or her name entered for a drawing at 5.p.m Saturday.
“You don’t have to buy anything to get in, but you buy the button to win the prizes,” Bachman said. “The super prize is a $1,000 Visa card. There are also two $500 gas cards, a quarter of a hog, a quarter of beef, and a whole lot of dinners are given away.”
Bachman said fan-favorites from Old Settlers Days past will return this year, including the pet show, rod run, and turtle show.
