Leavenworth city commissioners have taken additional steps toward implementing fees to generate money for maintenance of the city’s stormwater system. During a special meeting Tuesday, commissioners reached a consensus to advance two ordinances related to the stormwater management program. The ordinances will be brought back to commissioners next week for a final vote. City Manager Paul Kramer said the first ordinance establishes the program. Kramer said the ordinance lays out the program and the rules and regulations that govern it. The process for appointing people to the Leavenworth County Port Authority Board of Directors soon could change. When they met Tuesday, Leavenworth County commissioners reviewed a proposed amendment to an agreement that established the Port Authority. Currently, members are appointed to the economic development organization’s board with approval from the County Commission as well as the Leavenworth City Commission. But the amendment to the agreement would give the County Commission the sole authority to appoint people to the Port Authority. (Read more: Leavenworth Times)
