Carbondale earns $600,000 federal grant to assist library construction

Carbondale will receive $600,000 in community development block grant funds for constructing a public library. The city will contribute $901,754 in matching funds to obtain the grant. Through the Community Development Block Grant program, 12 Kansas communities will share a total of $6,806,637 in federal grants for water and sewer projects, two Kansas communities will share $600,000 for housing rehabilitation and nine communities will share $3,612,828 for community facility projects. Overbrook sets comprehensive plan for geese control; schedules controlled hunt

For the past year, the city of Overbrook has been looking at ways to control the goose population as well as the blue-green algae issue at the Overbrook City Lake and the Kid’s Fishing Pond. The city received input from Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, the lake steering committee, Overbrook Parks and Recreation, and the public. Carbondale celebrates coming of fall at annual festival Saturday

Carbondale is gearing up for its annual fall festival, returning this year to the second Saturday in September. The 2018 Carbondale Fall Festival is this Saturday, Sept 8. All activities will be in the new side of City Park., with vendors, a car show on Kansas Avenue, special parade for youth, variety of bounce houses, slides, and obstacle courses appropriate for toddlers to adults. Farmers market vendors will have a bonus sale opportunity at the festival, along with assorted foods and crafts. Osage County EMS recognized for care of cardiac and stroke patients

Osage County EMS has been recognized with the 2018 Bronze Plus Mission: Lifeline award by the American Heart Association. This is the third consecutive year that OCEMS has received the award, which recognizes the company for its care of patients suffering heart attack or coronary conditions. OCEMS service director Donna Connell noted, “A dedicated staff of EMTs and paramedics, progressive protocols, EKG transmission capabilities, and aggressive education have benefited their patients.
