McPherson hits $1 million in housing grants

For the third time in about four years, the city of McPherson has picked up a grant to help homeowners replace windows, roofs, siding and other home improvements for those who qualify. Since 2016, the city has been able to make an investment of about $1 million in housing using similar grant funds. “We’ve done rehab on 30 or 32 houses,” said Nick Gregory, city administrator for McPherson. ”... Wayne Burns, Public Lands and Facilities Director for McPherson, looked across the gymnasium at the Community Building, 122 E. Marlin, Thursday and puffed up with a bit of pride. Not only because the old building is being made new again, but because of the history within its walls. “This is the home of the Global Refiners, the first gold medal basketball team,” Burns said. “This is where they played games and practiced.” The gymnasium, which will once again host sporting events when it reopens, will tell the story of the Globe Refiners. City of McPherson drafts Sunday liquor sales ordinances

As a result of the March 12 special election city of McPherson officials drafted and reviewed various ordinances to allow Sunday liquor sales within city limits. According to the commission “The combined effect of these ordinances changes the allowance for Sunday Liquor Sales from Noon to 8 p.m. to include allowances for the following consumption licenses: CMB Licenses (Beer 3.2 percent alcohol content and below), General Retail Enhanced CMB (Beer under 6 percent in alcohol in content), Limited Retail Enhance CMB (Beer under 6 percent in alcohol in content), Retail Alcoholic Beverage Licenses, and Special Event Permits. McPherson City Commission tries new meeting time

The McPherson City Commission will try something new in April. They will be holding their meetings at 5:30 p.m. rather than 8:30 a.m. in an effort to be more accessible to the community. The April 1 meeting will be at 8:30 a.m., but following that, the rest of the meetings in the month will be held in the evening. McPherson County nixes wind turbines indefinitely

All three McPherson Country commissioners voted earlier this week for a moratorium on applications for conditional-use permits that would allow the construction of wind turbines in the county. No applications for conditional-use permits in connection with commercial wind turbine projects will be accepted for an indefinite period, said Rick Witte McPherson County Administrator.
