The Reno County Commission received a budget proposal this week that allows employee raises, adds one new staff member to the sheriff’s office and sets aside $1 million for a courthouse weatherization project without increasing the county’s property tax mill levy.

Even with a flat levy, however, county commissioners tentatively agreed on Tuesday to trim budget requests from several outside agencies to limit new tax growth.

The commission will take up the budget again next week to see the impact of changes suggested this week and then likely schedule a public hearing on the document Aug. 13.
