The Liberal City Commission will be wrapping up its summer during its next meeting this evening starting at 5:30.

Up first for the commission will be discussion of Resolution No. 2292, which concerns the Moderate Income Housing (MIH) grant.

“Pete Earles and I were approached some time ago by David Fields regarding a housing development,” a memo in the agenda information noted. “Mr. Fields proposes to build 14 homes in the Prairie Breeze addition and would like to apply for a Moderate Income Housing grant through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation for part of the home construction on this project. He will also apply for the Rural Housing Incentive District program for the infrastructure at a later date. This grant is a pass through grant for cities to work with a developer on a project that will benefit the community by providing affordable housing and putting new homes on the tax rolls. The City has previously received two MIH grants – one was for the Village at the Plaza for $350,000 and the other was for the Jewell Street development for $150,000. Both of these projects have been successful in providing additional affordable housing in Liberal.”
