When they met this week, Leavenworth city commissioners discussed recommendations for a new community festival and ideas for improving the appearance of the city.

Assistant City Manager Taylour Tedder reviewed the latest recommendations from a festival advisory board that was formed last year.

City officials are looking at organizing a new community festival for 2019.

Commissioners first reviewed recommendations from the advisory board during a May 15 meeting. Following that meeting, board members met again to refine their recommendations.

Tedder said Tuesday that board members are recommending a community festival taking place on a Friday and Saturday in mid September of next year. Tedder said the board recommends First City Festival as a possible name for the event, and the festival could have a historical, wild west theme.
