Chairs, couches and other large curbside trash items have become an area of frustration for a local citizen, leading to a discussion among Arkansas City officials about how to handle such problems.

Ken Harader expressed his concerns during the regular Arkansas City Commission meeting Tuesday.

Harader asked commissioners to address the problem of large trash items being left curbside, often for weeks at a time.

He said a location near his residence on North First Street has left items piled up and untouched in front of the residence since March.

“We talk about the beautification of our town and making the community presentable so people will want to come,” he said. “I think the city needs to address this in some way.”

Mayor Dan Jurkovich agreed and said on top of being unsightly the items also create an environment for pests.“That’s also a concern,” he said.
