Local residents and visitors to Fort Scott have another way to get around town thanks to a program through the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce and the Healthy Bourbon County Action Team.

The chamber is facilitating the Fort Scott Bike Share Program, in which people can pick up a bike at one of four hub locations; the chamber office, 231 E. Wall St., Peerless Products, 2403 S. Main St., Nate’s Place Restaurant & Lounge at Eighth Street and National Ave., and Fort Scott Community College, 2108 S. Horton St.

The bikes were purchased using grant funds from the $500,000 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant the action team received in 2016. The program is part of a non-motorized transportation plan the Fort Scott City Commission approved in 2017. The program is geared toward promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.
