The Buhler City Council tabled any action on the proposal to implement franchise fees during Tuesday’s agenda session.

According to City Clerk Merrill Peterson, Mayor Daniel Friesen was not able to attend the meeting. The matter will be taken up next month. Friesen brought the proposal to the council last month as a way to help fund capital improvement projects.

Under the proposal, a 2.5 percent fee would be placed on the city utility bill, which includes water, sewer and trash.

With the city generating about $500,000 a year on utilities, the fee would mean about $15,000 a year for capital improvement projects.
