If you want to put a yard sign up to support your favorite political candidate, be sure you know where you’re putting them.

“Signs are never allowed on KDOT right of way,” said KDOT spokeswoman Kim Stich. “That’s something that’s standard, whether it’s business signs, garage sale signs or political signs. Especially during the summer of a campaign and an election, we see a lot more signs along highway right of way that have to be removed.”

If you put your sign too close to the road, it may disappear.

“If they are on KDOT right of way, they will be taken to the closest KDOT office,” said Stich. “The owner can pick them up, with the agreement that they will not be placed back on the right of way.”
