Tuesday morning, Saline County Commissioners cut $686,000 from their proposed budget, which means property owners could see a smaller tax increase.
The county could need an increase of only 2.5 mills to fund the 2019 county budget. Commissioners Monte Shadwick and Robert Vidricksen advocated for cuts from budget requests submitted by department leaders. Commissioner Mike White said he thought itwas time to invest in Saline County.
Vidricksen said he supported increasing taxes, but not by as much as the initial budget requests would have required.
“I’ll agree we need to increase it, but that should have been done four, five or six years ago with a different commission that chose not to fund anything,” he said. “We still have to be prudent in how fast we increase these issues that need to be funded.”
