Osage City Library plans Valentine’s Day surprises for local seniors

The Osage City Library will be delivering some love to all the senior living centers for Valentine’s Day. Those who would like to participate can purchase or make homemade valentines, write a note, and sign them. Osage City has new highway: K-31 opens after monthslong closure

Kansas Department of Transportation announced yesterday through social media that state Highway 31, between Osage City and U.S. Highway 75, has been reopened, as of Nov. 2, 2022. Overbrook cooks up plan to build downtown historical museum

A cookbook featuring more than 350 homegrown recipes from members of the Overbrook community is now available for purchase, with proceeds from the sale going toward the effort to build a historical museum in downtown Overbrook. The ”Don’t Overcook Overbrook” cookbook features a wide assortment of recipes for appetizers, soups, desserts, main dishes, salads, and more. Small voter turnout imposes 1/2 cent countywide sales tax to build new Osage County jail

Osage County voters approved a countywide 1/2 cent sales tax in Tuesday’s election, which is proposed to pay for design, construction, and furnishing costs, and the first years’ payments on a 35-year bond, for a $20 million detention center and law enforcement center. With a vote of 1,149 yes votes to 505 no votes, the sales tax will go into effect July 1, 2022, to pay for the construction and startup costs of the proposed $20,295,000 facility. Osage County voters to decide sales tax question for law center and jail

At a special election Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, local voters could determine whether future duties of the Osage County Sheriff’s Office will include operating a 120-bed detention center proposed to be built in Lyndon. On the ballot is a special question, which if approved would establish a 1/2 cent countywide sales tax to pay costs to “design, construct, equip and furnish a new law enforcement and public safety center …” The tax would pay for the startup costs of a proposed $20 million county jail and law enforcement center, and initial payments on bonds issued to finance the project. Osage County historophiles launch coalition to share ideas, information and resources

The first meeting of a coalition of Osage County historical societies and other interested people was held Wednesday Nov. 10, 2021, at the Lyndon Community Center. The group was created to begin a collaborative union among groups in Osage County interested in preserving the history of our county. Representatives from Osage County Historical Society, Bailey House at Lyndon, Overbrook Historical Society, Overbrook Library, Arvonia Preservation Society, and Osage City were in attendance.
