Gardner’s documentary coming this Spring

A $27,000 documentary approved by the Gardner City Council last year has not yet aired, but should broadcast this spring. It will feature Laurence Fishburne as narrator. ... The programming, to run under the banner of “great places to live, work and raise a family,” will include a 3-5 minute short documentary. The documentary will bridge the gap between 30-60 minute shows on public television. The videos will also include a 5-6 minute “behind the scenes” documentary that will be emailed to viewers requesting information about great places to live, work and raise a family. Gardner’s plans to annex Hillsdale Water Plant in Miami County stalls

Last September, the Gardner City Council adopted a Consent for Annexation for the Hillsdale Water Treatment plant, located at 22705 South Moonlight Rd., in Miami County. The Gardner City Council voted to start the process of annexing the city’s water treatment plant during a Sept. 3 meeting. At that time, Ryan Denk, city attorney, told council members that because the property was owned by the city, it did not have to go before the Miami County Commissioners and could be approved by the city council at the next meeting. Grant to assist with Egerton’s 207th Street railroad overpass received

Edgerton received grant money for a railroad overpass along 207th Street. The Johnson County Board of Commissioners approved a $1 million County Assistance Road System, or CARS, grant to Edgerton for an overpass along 207th Street at Co-Op Road. “We are in the final stages of design and property acquisition for the project,” said Beth Linn, city administrator. “We anticipate this project will go out to bid in the coming weeks to secure a contractor for construction. Street crews work hard to protect citizens in recent snowstorm

Police and fire officials praised the Gardner Public Works Department for responding quickly and thoroughly to the winter storm this weekend. “We got lucky here,” said Jake Hayes, Gardner police captain. “Public works was really on top of it. They do good work, and they got out there as soon as it started snowing. I’ve heard that our roads were better than many other areas. They do a good job for us.” Twenty crew members in public works labored for 24 hours to get the roads clear in Gardner, according to Jody Demaline, public works superintendent. City approves 3.75 million in bonds

Gardner City Council approved $3.75 million in bonds to finance several projects in the city during a meeting Oct. 22. The bonds, which include $1,140,000 in tax exempt general obligation temporary notes, $2,350,000 in taxable general obligation temporary notes and $2,600,000 in general obligation bonds, will be put up for sale on Nov. 18. ‘Annexation bonanza’ as city adds 500 acres

The city of Gardner, in what one councilmember described as an “annexation bonanza,” annexed almost 500 acres of land south of Interstate 35 during a council meeting Oct. 7. The city also approved a major development agreement with a developer who plans to build retail, commercial and residential properties on parts of newly annexed lands. Gardner postpones water plant annexation

The Gardner City Council Sept. 16 asked Ryan Denk, city attorney, and staff to contact Miami County Board of commissioners about the city’s plans to annex the Hillsdale water treatment plant. The council during its last meeting Sept 3 authorized the mayor to execute a “consent to annex” the plant. The plant is located in unincorporated Miami County, and city staff said it would save money on permitting fees paid to Miami County for construction projects at the plant. Edgerton approves condemnation plan

The Edgerton City Council approved a resolution to acquire through condemnation several private properties along state Highway 56 during a meeting Sept. 12. The properties lie along the proposed route of a multi-use path along the highway which will provide pedestrian and bicycle access from neighborhood residences to the Dollar General store, the elementary school and other future development. Cost to repair, replace spillway balloons to $766,000

Cost of repairing the Gardner Lake dam has grown to more than $766,000, according to Michael Kramer, public works director. The cost includes the design, permitting and construction of the alternate. In January, 2017, the Gardner City council approved dredging the lake and repairing the dam for a cost of $780,000. Michael Kramer, public works director, said the State Division of Conservation (DOC) had responded to a June 2016 city request for funding and would contribute $280,000 in 2017 to fund the dredging project. Olathe earns four awards at Kansas Water Environment Association annual conference

The City of Olathe is proud to announce that city facilities and staff earned four awards at the recent Kansas Water Environment Association annual conference. The Harold Street Wastewater Treatment Facility was named a top Class 5 plant in the state (facilities treating more than three million gallons per day). The Compost Facility on Hedge Lane was honored with the top biosolids management program in Kansas for 2019. Both awards are a result of the passion of the operators, plant maintenance, and laboratory staff who are on-call 24/7 to protect the environment and health of Olathe citizens.
