Andover to release draft of 10-year plan, wants public’s reaction

The City of Andover has been looking at what needs to be done to improve the community over the next 10 years. It held a public survey, community meetings, workshops and other events before coming up with a plan of action. And next week, it will release the final draft of that plan so the public can comment on it. The City will use the plan to guide decision-making and development. The 10-year Comprehensive Plan includes the framework for consistent planning of neighborhoods, commercial corridors, the transportation network, and public open spaces. Source: KSN-TV

Small quake reported west of Elmdale

A small earthquake developed about 10 miles west of Elmdale early Sunday. The magnitude 2.5 quake was reported shortly after 5:30 am in far eastern Marion County, about 35 miles due west of Emporia. No injuries or damage have been reported — and as of 10 am, there have been no reports anybody felt the quake. Source: KVOE Emporia Radio

Sublette will observe its 100th anniversary of incorporation this year, and a weekend of celebratory Centennial events is being planned for June 2, 3, and 4, 2023. Kansas tops list again for economic development deals per capita

Kansas has been recognized again by a national magazine for attracting new economic development activity to the state. For 2022, Kansas ranked first in the nation in private investment per capita with 138 deals, earning Site Selection Magazine's Governor's Cup for the second straight year. “Our trophy case is getting full, but believe me: This new era of economic growth is just getting started,” Gov. Laura Kelly said in a release. “We will continue our efforts to build a strong workforce, attract young people to the state and maintain a stable economy so that companies in Kansas and around the world know that we are a reliable partner.” Source: Kansas City Business Journal

Fed says more rate hikes are needed to curb inflation

The Federal Reserve said further interest-rate hikes would be required to restore price stability. "The committee is strongly committed to returning inflation to its 2% objective," the Fed said in its semi-annual report to Congress released Friday. Officials expect "ongoing increases in the target range will be appropriate in order to attain a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive." The town of Abilene fell short of coming in first place for the second year in a row in USA TODAY's "Best Historic Small Town" contest. Visit Abilene Kansas made the announcement on Friday, March 3, more than a month after Abilene was named as a finalist in USA TODAY's 10Best Readers' Choice Contest. Kansas lawmakers are moving forward with several bills to rewrite alcohol laws in the state. The Kansas House voted 116 to six to pass House Bill 2059 on Thursday. The proposal could change where people drink alcohol in the state. In some cases, it could mean buying a drink at a local bar, then walking down the street with your drink in hand.
