During a Topeka Police Department Citizens Advisory Council meeting Thursday night, members listened to three presentations about programs that partner with the police department and work with kids in the community. One of them, the OK Program, works with African-American children ages 12 to 18 and focuses on instilling a sense of empowerment and teaching them how to improve their community. Kansas Turnpike toll prices to increase beginning in October

Drivers on the Kansas Turnpike will pay more beginning Oct. 1. The state announced Wednesday that tolls on the turnpike will increase about 5 percent for passenger vehicles with a K-TAG pass. Commercial vehicles with a K-TAG may see an increase because electronic fares will be rounded to the nearest nickel. Fees for passenger vehicles paying cash will increase about 12.5 percent, while commercial vehicles paying cash will see a 10 percent increase. All cash fares will be rounded to the nearest quarter. Neither the City of Winfield nor the City of Arkansas City has any sort of formal grievance policy for employees wishing to challenge a firing or other issue, although other local government entities have such policies on their books.
