Issuers and buyers will both be watching the direction yields take this week as the 30-year municipal bond slips beneath the 2% threshold and 10-year heads toward record-low territory. On Monday, the 10-year general obligation on Refinitiv Municipal Market Data’s AAA scale fell to 1.31%, two basis points away from the record low while the 30-year muni yield dropped to 1.97%, four basis points above the record low. Riley County begins search for new health department director following Green’s resignation

Riley County Health Department Director Jennifer Green announced her resignation to the commission recently. She’s seen in this 2017 KMAN file photo During the Riley County commission meeting last Thursday, Riley County Health Department Director Jennifer put in her resignation as director. The commissioners on Monday discussed who would be on the committee to find Green’s replacement. Fined in Mulvane? Pay some of it with school supplies

August ticket-getters in Mulvane will be able to cover a portion of their fines by donating school supplies. Public Safety Director Gordon Fell proposed the supplies-for-fines program after reading of a similar effort by the Shawnee Municipal Court. Mulvane council members approved it at their Aug. 5 meeting. “Not only does it help on the fines they owe but it also helps parents [and] students in the community,” Fell said in a memo to the council. All of Kansas at high risk for West Nile virus

Kansas health officials have revised their West Nile virus risk level for most of northern Kansas and the southeast part of the state. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment's new risk map shows south-central, southwest and northeast Kansas are still at high risk while the other portions have been downgraded to moderate risk. Wichita police to hold news conference with U.S. Marshals Service on effort to reduce violent crime

The Wichita Police Department (WPD) is hosting a joint news conference today at 2 p.m. led by the U.S. Marshals Service to discuss the successes of a recent collaborative effort to reduce violent crime in Wichita titled, “Operation Triple Beam.” The operation was held from June through July and helped decrease violent crime in Wichita by targeting violent offenders. The efforts ended with more than 900 arrests, the seizure of more than 80 guns, over $142,000 in cash and $835,000 in illegal narcotics. (Read more: KSN-TV)

Hutchinson USD 308 held its annual convocation Monday with more than 900 staff members attending. Several educators were honored during the event. The Davis Foundation made its annual Teachers of the Year Awards. The elementary winners were Heather Ramos, a third-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School, and Glinda Theus, a third-grade teacher at Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen. KDOT to bring back the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program

A new program will help replace and rehabilitate deficient bridges in Kansas. The Kansas Department of Transportation has brought back the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program. Ulysses teen receives Teen Choice Award

Braxton Moral, 18, a spring graduate of Ulysses High School and Harvard, was in California this last weekend for Teen Choice 2019. Moral was the first person to earn a high school diploma and a four-year-degree from Harvard simultaneously. He was one of eight entries receiving the Teen Choice Take Note Award, which was presented by Crayola. The annual Teen Choice awards event, aired live Sunday on FOX from Hermosa Beach, California, recognizes entertainers and performers.
