Some people really dislike paying an extra penny or two of sales tax.

That became clear as Capital-Journal Facebook readers reacted mostly negatively last month when the city of Topeka formed its sixth Community Improvement District, in which customers pay increased sales tax and the revenue goes to help developers pay renovation or development costs.

“No thanks!” Charles Criqui commented on the newspaper’s Facebook page. “They can pay for their own renovations.”
