On a call last week, officers shot and killed a man after he fired dozens of shots from his home. They later confirmed he had a known history of mental health issues.
Wichita city leaders say there is a mental health crisis in the community. Malachi Winters with Sedgwick County Emergency Services will soon manage a pilot program to respond to mental health issues in the community.
The program allows Sedgwick County deputies and Wichita police to work closely with COMCARE social workers and paramedics.
