Topeka mayor praises firefighters’ work battling raging blaze

Mayor Michelle De La Isla praised Topeka firefighters Thursday for what she described as their “heroic work” Wednesday evening battling a raging blaze that did significant damage in the 100 block of N. Kansas Avenue.

De La Isla also gave kudos to Topeka police for the job they did providing traffic control and keeping the area secure.

“It was a very impressive situation,” she said. “The fire on Kansas Avenue was just a lot of work, and we had our teams there a long time working to mitigate this.”
