The Board of Harvey County Commissioners will change the process for how it makes appointments to the Harvey County Community Mental Health Center Advisory Committee.
Instead of appointing every member to the advisory committee, commissioners agreed that they appoint one county representative and possibly another at-large member.
County Administrator Anthony Swartzendruber said he arranged for Jessie Kaye, Prairie View Mental Health Center president and CEO, to come to the meeting to answer commissioners’ questions.
Prairie View’s board of directors recommended changes to its guidelines that set terms for one year with no term limit. Advisory committee officers also would be replaced with a facilitator, and the committee no longer would be limited to seven members.
However, the suggested changes would conflict with a policy adopted by the commission in 1997 that set terms for all commission appointments at three years. A committee or board member, regardless to which organization one is appointed, is limited to three consecutive terms.
