The Reno County Commission on Tuesday approved the local Community Corrections office applying for a pair of state grants worth nearly $1 million to support its adult supervision and behavioral health programs. The primary grant, for just under $730,000, seeks about a 2.3 percent increase over current fiscal year funding, Community Corrections director Randy Regehr told the commission.
“This grant funds our adult supervision program,” Regehr said. ”(The Kansas Department of Corrections) is asking for a 3 percent improvement in our success rate last year. We ended the year at 80 percent (success), so we’ll try to reach 83 percent next year.
“One way we’re working to achieve that goal is improved contact between officer and clients, and to increase the amount of coaching for officers. We have a couple of good officers who will lead that up.”
Another area they will seek to improve, Regehr said, is ensuring clients are “connected to the right interventions. There are two things under that: improving how we refer to in-house cognitive behavior groups and our referral process for drug court.”
