The Lyon County Commission tabled a discussion about a communications tower last week and sent the application for it back to the county planning and zoning board.
This discussion has been ongoing since February.
AT&T and Network Real Estate have requested agricultural land on Road 190 be re-zoned to allow the tower to be placed there.
The commission removed the discussion from the table and put it back into play.
Chair of the Lyon County Planning and Zoning Board Sam Seeley addressed the commission about the tower. He said the county planning and zoning board had voted 2 to 1 in favor of allowing the tower.
According to Seeley, the tower, if it were to go up, would be located about a quarter mile west of the intersection of Road 190 and Road E, in the southeast corner on a 100-by-100 square foot parcel of land. The tower would be a 180-foot tall, self-supporting structure, he said, in a fenced compound and a fall radius that would prevent it from landing on anyone else’s property or the road.
Landowners in the vicinity of the would-be tower have complained, fearing the possibility the tower will cause health problems and lower the value of their properties.
