Pretty Prairie voters say yes to city sales tax

  Voters in Pretty Prairie passed a proposed one-percent city sales tax for maintenance of streets, related utilities, and the infrastructure under the streets, in a special election Tuesday.

Pretty Prairie, with a population of about 654 residents, does not have a local sales tax. The one-percent tax, to start this year, will be in addition to the state’s 6.5 percent sales tax and Reno County’s 1.5 percent sales tax, making the new overall sales tax rate 9 percent. The city sales tax will sunset after ten years.
