Community members in Clearwater are fed up with what they’re calling a dangerous intersection.
An accident at 71st and 135th recently injured 9 people, most of them children.
The intersection of 71st and 135th is the main way both in and out of Clearwater. As accident after accident happens, citizens are demanding solutions to a safer intersection.
People filled an auditorium Wednesday night, lining up to let county officials know just how dangerous they believe the intersection is.
“Any time I drive on that road, I am prepared that the car that has the stop sign probably won’t stop,” says Steffanie Comer, a Clearwater resident.
County Commissioner, Michael O’Donnell says he’s committed to listening to concerns and taking action.
“They’ve suffered a lot of accidents that have been tragic, so I think just coming out and bringing a lot of county staff to the table means a lot,” says O’Donnell.
The most popular solution from the community was rumble strips, something the county says the intersection doesn’t meet current guidelines to put in.
