For more than a century, the community 14 miles south of Winfield has been known as Arkansas City. But somebody wants to change the name to Etzanoa, although the idea hasn’t gained much traction.
An online petition through the change.org website, started by the Etzanoa Coalition, has only gathered 13 supporters so far. And people associated with the project of Etzanoa, the name of the large Native American settlement being unearthed east of Ark City along the Walnut River, don’t know who is behind the so-called Etzanoa Coalition, and the petition itself does not provide any clues.
But that hasn’t stopped people from commenting on social media.
