Kemper Sports and the city commission are working on a new management agreement for the Meridian Center and Sand Creek Station golf course — and the city stands to save money over the course of the next few years.

’This is a two-prong initiative,” said Chris Tuohey, manager of Sand Creek Station. “It is about sustainabitly and what comes next … for both amazing assets. … Let’s not talk about what we are going to do tomorrow, but what we are going to do 20 years from now. There needs to be a balance between short term and long term.”

Kemper Sports proposed a nine-year agreement with a $75,000 reduction in fees to the city for the management of the Meridian Center and Sand Creek Station.

Under the new agreement, fees would be set at $84,000 annually for Sand Creek Station and $60,000 annually for the Meridian Center — starting in January of 2019. The agreement calls for a 3 percent increase each year starting in 2020.

According to Tuohey the hope is the reduction of fees would allow the city to budget for capital improvements to both facilities.
