The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is lowering its age to be a detention deputy in hopes of reaching more applicants.
Before anyone applying for a position at the Sedgwick County Detention Facility had to be 19 years old. That age has been lowered to 18.
The sheriff’s office says applicants still have to be 21 to be a commissioned officer who carries a service weapon.
Applicants must also pass a written test, physical test, psychological test, drug test, polygraph and background check.
