Parsons city commissioners on Monday will consider a lease agreement with a waste management company.
During its regular meeting the commission likely will vote on the lease of land in Industrial Park No. 1 for Miami Industrial Supply. The company wants to set up a site where it can store empty roll-off dumpsters.
Jim Zaleski, economic development director, told commissioners during a Thursday work session that he has discussed the arrangement with the Miami, Oklahoma-based company for five or six months.
The company would lease space north of the north parking lot at the city’s Business Incubator Center, 1209 Corporate Drive, for 18 months at $300 per month beginning in November. In lieu of payment, Miami Industrial Supply would make repairs to the parking lot and provide rock as the base for its own parking area for its roll-off dumpsters and a truck. Following the 18-month lease, the company would pay $400 per month if it wanted to continue using the gravel parking pad.
Zaleski said the BIC’s parking lot is in dire need of repair. Two local companies, Ducommun Inc. and Sun Graphics, use the BIC for storage, and it would be helpful for drivers to not have to try to avoid the holes in the lot. He said the estimate for the repair is about the same as 18 months of rent at $300.
