Forty-six percent of surveyed Newton residents believed an elected mayor position would be the easiest way for elected officials to focus the public over potential interests. That’s the result of the City of Newton’s first survey conducted through the company FlashVote. Two-hundred-twenty-nine residents answered the question, approximately 1.23 percent of the city population. The city previously said it needed 200 people to be surveyed for a scientifically valid result. The city commission and city staff pushed forward the survey as a way of gauging residential interest to changing Newton’s elected structure.
