Property outside of the cities in Labette County soon will be eligible for a tax rebate program after action taken on Monday.

The Labette County Commission voted 2-1 to approve a neighborhood revitalization plan for all areas in the county except those within the corporate limits of any city, the footprint of the Great Plains Industrial Park and the federal zone surrounding Big Hill Lake. The plan as drafted by Brian Johnson, county counselor, also would exclude the 3-mile zone around Parsons, but that area likely be included in the final version. As of late Monday afternoon, Johnson hadn’t spoken to Ross Albertini, city of Parsons attorney, about the plan.

Albertini said the county likely didn’t want to duplicate coverage of the city’s neighborhood revitalization plans, but none of the city’s plans cover the 3-mile zone. The city only enforces its zoning ordinance in the extraterritorial area.

The commissioners voted to adopt the plan with a few changes, which may include addition of the 3-mile zone.
