Topeka’s mayor and city council voted Tuesday evening to levy a 1 cent sales tax increase upon customers of the planned Sherwood Crossing redevelopment at the site of the former Villa West Shopping Center.
The mayor and council also voted to allow a second shift to be put in place for city water division employees while granting them pay raises for a three-year period totaling 17 percent instead of the 11.5 percent suggested by the city’s administration.
Mayor Michelle De La Isla and the nine council members voted 10-0 to form the Sherwood Crossing Community Improvement District, for which the additional 1-cent sales tax will be levied in the shopping center at the northwest corner of S.W. 29th and Wanamaker.
