With survey, historic district ready for next step in Clay Center

Clay Center has something special, a real treasure with it’s historic downtown, and it’s something worth preserving through a historic downtown district, an expert who has completed a survey on the downtown told those in a meeting on Tuesday.

In breaking down what makes Clay Center special, historic surveyor Dale Nimz identified five unique periods from the early settlement stage (before 1875) to the modern era (after 1975), adding what makes Clay Center distinctive is that most of its downtown was built before 1945.
