The Geary County Commission received a request Monday to provide funding help for the annual Fourth of July celebration, Sundown Salute.

Commission Chair Charles Stimatze reported that Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Director Michelle Stimatze is seeking $20,000 for Sundown Salute. He confirmed the governing body has not yet made any decision on the request. A shortfall in fundraising is the issue. “Shortfall in fundraising. Everybody knows, and it’s not just Sundown Salute. I think it’s all organizations are having a hard time. because all the local businesses are getting hit up for it.”

If the funding is approved the money would come out of the CVB budget. The convention and visitor’s bureau is a county entity.
