Reno County officials issued an emergency declaration about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday due to anticipated flooding in the county and advised residents who live in flood-prone areas to prepare to evacuate before their property is inundated.
Some two dozen county roads were temporarily closed due to flood waters crossing them, with road washouts or bridge damage closing at least three other routes longer term. Forecasters with the U.S. Geological Service, meanwhile, were projecting all major rivers and creeks in the county will experience minor to moderate flooding over the next three days as runoff from heavy rains from the past couple of days makes its way downstream.
In neighboring Harvey County, the Little Arkansas River is projected to hit a new record at Halstead, though only moderate flooding was expected.
