Clearwater community members say they already feel safer at the intersection of 71st and 135th.
“You can just see the amount of traffic that has slowed tremendously. People don’t go flying by you at the streak of lightning. It’s a lot slower pace now,” says Casey Richwine, who lives in the area.
That’s because the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office has increased the number of deputies patrolling the area. Several weeks ago, two cars collided at the intersection, leaving 9 people injured.The community went straight to county leaders after, asking for safety changes to be made.
“This community is asking for something. They’re not asking us to move a mountain. Something as simple as rumble strips,” says County Commissioner, Michael O’Donnell.
The county listened, immediately making changes.
