Miami County commissioners Wednesday, March 20, approved a revised agreement with the city of Osawatomie for rural fire and emergency services.
The county, which contracts with the city of Osawatomie for rural fire service, took over management of Fire District No. 1 in January after dissolving the district’s fire board.
The revised agreement reflects the management change, Fiscal Services Director Steve Lyman said in a report to commissioners. The other revision in the agreement, Lyman said, is that the city of Osawatomie will pay firefighters directly for their rural fire calls. The city would then submit a monthly bill for reimbursement by the county. Lyman said the financial terms of the agreement are not changing, and Osawatomie firefighters would continue to be paid the same amount for their rural fire calls.
Before, the Osawatomie Fire Department submitted bills for rural fire calls to the fire district board for payment.
