The Andover City Council says people who are annexed into the city can be pit bull owners, but keeping the pets comes with compliance regarding the city’s laws.
Last month, Eyewitness News told you about some of those rules. Requirements annexed pit bull owners must meet include paying a $50 fee, microchipping the dog and muzzling the pit bulls when they’re off of their owners’ property. The owner must also have a minimum of $100,000 in liability insurance and must put up a sign indicating that a “dangerous” dog is on their property.
Pit bulls have been banned in Andover since 2001, but the city faced a challenge with a newly annexed neighborhood. This is where the Andover City Council took action Tuesday night.
The ban for the rest of the city remains in effect.
