The city of Basehor has rejoined the Leavenworth County Development Corporation.
The announcement was made Thursday during a monthly meeting of LCDC’s Board of Directors.
The cities of Leavenworth, Lansing, Tonganoxie and Basehor as well as the county government traditionally have provided funding to the economic development organization. But Basehor ended its partnership with LCDC at the end of 2017.
Lloyd Martley Jr., who was the Basehor city administrator at the time, said LCDC focuses heavily on industrial business development. But Basehor does not have an industrial park, and city officials were looking for other types of commercial development.
Steve Jack, LCDC’s executive director, said Thursday that the decision for Basehor to rejoin LCDC came after he had a meeting with Basehor’s new city administrator, Leslee Rivarola.
“We had a really good lunch,” Jack said. “She said, ‘I’m ready to come back.’”
Jack said the Basehor government is paying a $10,775 membership fee. He said fees charged on an annual basis to cities that participate in LCDC are determined by a formula that factors in property valuation and population.
“We’re happy to be representing all four cities again,” Jack said.
