Atchison County Emergency Communications officially took a leap forward into the future to keep in step with the next generation of 911 without missing a beat in the meantime.
Atchison County commissioners unanimously voted during a special meeting on Thursday to enter a contractual agreement with the Mid-America Regional Council for the regional agency to provide 911 services to the Atchison County Communications Center. This means if the contract is approved the county’s joint communications operation will be part of consortium that includes Johnson County, Leavenworth County, Miami County, the Unified Government of Kansas City and the following counties in Missouri: Clay, Jackson, Platte, Ray, as well as City of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Cass County Missouri Emergency Services Board. The counties are contiguous with one another and are subject to the terms in accordance to an inter local agreement. If the counties agree to admit Atchison County then membership becomes effective within the current year.
