A $2.3 million contract to install and support what is called the Advanced Metering Infrastructure system was approved by the City Council at its Feb. 26 meeting.
The price includes materials, software, communication infrastructure, training and hosting fees for the first year. Bonds were issued in December 2018 in the amount of $2.7 million to finance the project.
The company provides system information for the utility and for the customer in the form of a web-based online portal, according to Robert Mendoza, director of public works. “This portal enables customers to view and actively participate in their own water usage management and conservation efforts,” he said in his report to the council.
The system works using wireless technology.
As designed, it will provide tools for constant water use monitoring and leak identification.
