Less than a year since a tornado tore down homes and injured people in Eureka, the town comes together around high school sports. Eureka won the 3A state wrestling tournament late last month and this weekend, sends its boys’ and girls’ basketball teams to State.

The athletes are using last year’s tornado as motivation to succeed, not an excuse to let down.

Two weeks ago, Eureka wrestler Kolby Beitz says more than 100 people from the community made the long trek to Hays to support the team.

The wrestling team championship was the first sports title for Eureka in school history. The Tornadoes are looking to add to its history with both basketball teams competing at State this weekend in Hutchinson.
