Board members Raleigh Ordoyne and Scott Zabokrtsky said they don’t want to see the county close for snow or ice in the future unless the weather is significantly bad, and all three board members agreed on the “fairest and simplest” way to pay employees if county offices are closed for inclement weather in the future: If employees work, they get paid. If they don’t work, they will have to use earned time or go without pay.
The county currently has no policy in place for office closures due to inclement weather, which forced commissioners to make a spur-of-the-moment decision on employee compensation in January when all non-essential county employees were told to stay home due to weather.
