Low-income senior citizens are invited to take part in a program that will reduce their monthly bills.
The city of Leavenworth once again is offering a rebate program for qualifying individuals that pays their sewer and trash bills each month.
Residents must live in the city limits, be 62 years old or older, be the primary occupant of the residence and fall into one of several age and income categories.
For example, the total gross income of the applicant cannot exceed $28,000. For a household of eight or more people, the total gross income of the applicant cannot exceed $52,000. Several other eligibility categories fall in between those figures.
City Clerk Carla Williamson, who administers the program, said there are currently 183 people enrolled in the rebate program.
“I know there must be a lot of people out there who would qualify. They should take advantage of this,” she said.
Williamson said there is no limit or cap on the number of people who can take part in the rebate program.
