Community safety was the main theme of the evening for the Liberal City Commission during its most recent Tuesday evening.
Up first in this theme saw Airport Operations Chief Brian Fornwalt talk to the commission about the installation of perimeter fencing at the Liberal Airport.
“Last year when the FAA was doing its inspection, they saw coyotes running across the main runway and run toward the golf course,” Fornwalt began. “Through some programs we’re trying to go through the FAA to get some funding for a perimeter fencing project Our recommendation is for the commission to approve the perimeter fencing installation project and approve the agreement for services with H.W. Lochner, Inc. for $39,000, with the 5 percent grant match funded with the Economic Development portion of the 1-cent sales tax. This all has to do with those coyotes the FAA inspectors saw. The fence we’re wanting to put up will be about 10 feet tall and it’ll have outriggers with barbed wire on it and then a 3-foot skirt buried underground to help keep the coyotes from digging underneath the fence.”
