The city of Frankfort has received federal grant monies to resurface its truck route through town.

The Kansas Department of Commerce announced last Thursday that Frankfort was one of 23 communities to receive a total $11 million in federal grants for a variety of purposes.

Frankfort will receive $265,656 in grant funds through the federal Community Development Block Grant program, and U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development will provide a low-interest loan of $256,656 to Frankfort to pay the 50 percent match required for the project. Marshall County Partnership for Growth economic development director Ellen Barber said Frankfort has received the most federal grants in the county in recent years because the city does a good job of planning ahead.

“Melody Tommer, who is the city clerk and Frankfort’s representative on the the partnership board, is a force behind projecting for the city’s current and future needs,” Barber said. “She is adept with helping to write the grants.”
