Last year was the busiest on record for Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, with 2018 ending with an annual record of 1,665,116 passengers flying in and out of the Air Capital.

That topped the previous record set in 2017 by more than 44,800 passengers, according to new data from the airport.

Boosted by new service that included Alaska Airlines’ flights to Seattle that began in 2017 and Frontier Airlines’ flights to Denver that began last year, the airport set numerous monthly ridership records throughout 2018.

That included one for the month of December, which saw 140,304 passengers for the final month of the year.

In addition to the overall ridership growth, the airport also reported a 7-percent increase in air cargo year over year in 2018.
